Day 116, Year 1 Receiving and Sharing Wisdom

“My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall give understanding.” (Psalm 49:3 NKJV)

Yesterday’s devotional mentioned that God wants to grant wisdom to the upright. Upon receiving God’s words of wisdom, we need to meditate on them. Indeed, many have received His words of wisdom, but some might have forgotten or failed to understand them. Perhaps only a few people have earnestly pondered and comprehended His wisdom and thus become the wise.

The latter part of today’s verse, “the meditation of my heart shall give understanding,” could be translated as “my heart will meditate, seeking understanding.” The previous devotional mentioned that “Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise.” (Proverbs 17:28a NASB) What should we do in silence? In my understanding, we should ponder and meditate on the Lord’s words, seek understanding, and receive His wisdom. Some people’s hearts are filled with various worries, constantly seeking pleasure, making endless plans and schemes, etc. But, believers should primarily seek to understand God’s wisdom and comprehend different reasons or divine principles. Then we could share His wisdom with others.

In today’s verse, the author begins by declaring, “My mouth shall speak wisdom.” If we could share God’s words of wisdom with the right people after learning from Him, it would benefit both us and others. Otherwise, what we have learned would be easily forgotten. Thus, sharing with others is a good way to practice wisdom. Of course, before sharing with others, first we need to discern whether what we have received suits the audience. Or, would our sharing of wisdom give others an inappropriate impression of superiority or pride? The best approach is to share God’s wisdom only when we feel guided by Him in prayer, for those who constantly seek His wisdom often speak less.

Nevertheless, if the communities of God collectively pursue divine wisdom, it would bring great blessings to us, in church, and even in societies! Tomorrow’s topic will be about accepting those who are weak in faith. Indeed, when we want to share God’s wisdom with others, we also need to see whether the recipients are suitable!

Reflection questions:

1) Do you want to constantly seek to understand God’s wisdom? If you do, in which areas do you need to take action at the moment?

2) Are there any suitable people around you with whom you could share God’s words of wisdom? No matter what, you could write
