Day 73 (Year 2)

Persistently Seeing the Lord’s Glory  

“For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.” (Psalm 36:9 NASB)

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 NASB)

Believers who follow God can have lives that grow ever brighter, because we are connected to the source of life and continually see His light. Today’s two scriptures remind me of the Urim and Thummim in the Old Testament—objects said to be used to seek God’s will. After people prayed, He would reveal His guidance through light or darkness, indicating answers like yes or no. Today, we who pray with a pure heart will receive His guidance and can come to understand His will.

The second verse tells us that Jesus’ life is full of glory. Through spiritual disciplines such as biblical meditation and prayer, we behold His glory. And thus we are soaked into His life, turning from darkness to God’s light, and can gradually be transformed into His glorious likeness. In contrast, some view Jesus through a sinner’s lens—speculating, for instance, about possible sexual implications in His interactions with various women. They do not seek the Lord’s glory but are enforcing a sinful interpretation onto Jesus. Those who read Scripture from this kind of perspective will find it difficult to experience genuine spiritual transformation, no matter how many times they read it. In fact, when Jesus began His public ministry, He was around thirty years old. Yet some perceived Him as nearly fifty (John 8:57). As for whether His interactions with various women could have involved any form of sexual stimulation—readers may judge for yourselves.

Believers seek God’s light, but that light does not necessarily remain permanently in any place. If God calls a believer to bring the gospel to a people who have never heard it, there may be no church anywhere in that place where he or she can behold God’s glory. After all, how can there be a church before the gospel has taken root? Indeed, whatever Jesus commands us, obedience to Him is what leads us to see His glory. Following God’s promptings and moving according to His direction is how we find His presence. In summary, today’s two scriptures affirm that we must behold the glory of Jesus, find the source of our lives in Him, and be transformed increasingly into His glory.

2) Is Jesus Christ, whom you believe in, a glorious Lord? How does He desire to change you, and are you willing to cooperate with Him?
