Day 77 (Year 2)

God Knows Everything in the Darkness  

“It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, And the light dwells with Him.” (Daniel 2:22 NASB)

The context of the above scripture tells us that Daniel interpreted the dream of the Babylonian king at that time, thereby pointing out that the true God is the One who reveals hidden things. The mysteries hidden in people’s dreams can be unveiled through His guidance. We should seek God’s guidance, yet exercise great restraint, so as not to overstep His position or role by offering misinterpretations or fabricating visions or dreams. God knows all things in the darkness, and He is able to turn those who are in the dark toward the light.

Today’s verse tells us that light dwells with God, yet He does not dwell in the darkness. God knows many who live in the darkness, but He is not present with them. This aligns with how many people feel. Those in the darkness always sense that God is very far away. When people do evil and know that God is aware of it, this often scares them. Conversely, when upright people find themselves trapped in the darkness and sense that God knows their difficulty, this can bring profound comfort. For us, even in the darkness, once the path toward God’s light is found, our hearts are filled with hope, joy, and peace—because we know we are about to leave the darkness and enter into God’s embrace.

In the process of turning from the darkness to God’s light, we receive His insight and messages into our own situation through means such as dreams. Jesus will certainly reveal to each of us whatever hidden things can help us leave the darkness. In the 2010s, I learned Christian spiritual history, and a professor noted that throughout the history of experiencing God’s work, what has been recorded represents only a small fraction. Meanwhile, many believers’ experiences have gone unrecorded because God leads each believer along their own unique path. When we are fully submitted to the teachings of Scripture and, after prayers, confirm that it is truly God’s guidance, we can wholly obey Him with faith and courage along a distinctive path. Often, it is through obeying God’s present leading that we can clearly discern the path ahead in Him. As we move toward His light, we need an open, continuously submissive heart, so that our lives grow brighter with every step and rest in confidence.
