Day 84 (Year 2)

“He Has Nothing in Me”

At one time, Jesus told His disciples, “I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.” (John 14:30 NASB)

When believers leave Satan’s power and turn to God, we must leave its domain and rely on Him to uproot every foothold within that belongs to it. We need to sever the pathway through which it enters and the tools through which he controls, and replace them with God’s truth. The reason Satan has power over sinners’ lives is that within them are selfish desires, lies, distorted beliefs, or schemes belonging to it that it can exploit. Thus, we must clearly understand and submit to God’s truth in order to be set free and follow Him with our whole beings.

Today’s scripture summarizes the key point of the entire journey from Satan’s power to God. We must exercise the greatest determination and perseverance, follow the example of Jesus, submit fully to God, uproot all wrong thoughts and beliefs that come from Satan along with their related emotions and habits, and thereby progressively gain victory. The good news is: If Satan has no claim on anything within you, you are free from its control. However, being forced into battle with it, or experiencing inner struggle, is generally unavoidable. For apart from Jesus, every believer breaking free from Satan is like a prisoner of war attempting to escape enemy pursuit—it is truly difficult. Believers can only succeed with the Lord’s help.

It is worth noting that when Satan came to Jesus, He stopped talking much with His disciples. This suggests that those who are in the midst of turning from Satan to God may also find it difficult to share or communicate much with those around them. This does not mean we should isolate ourselves. Rather, it means that in this spiritual battle, we often find it hard to engage in activities unrelated to our spiritual survival. Meanwhile, such believers usually need intercessors to pray for their lives to be kept by God and protected from Satan’s harm. Finally, we must always remember that without the Lord Jesus’ permission, the ruler of this world cannot come before you. He permits Satan’s coming for the purpose of refining us. Satan’s attacks are real and can even be deadly. Thus, we must seek God’s wisdom and power and seriously address different problems in our lives, which usually begin with core, foundational issues. If we do not deal with key issues according to God’s guidance, physical and spiritual death and danger can really occur.

Reflection questions:

1) What footholds does the evil one have within you—what wrong thoughts, beliefs, and related emotions and habits? If there are any, what is the first thing you need to rely on God to uproot?

2) Do you have believers around you who can intercede for your life? If so, courageously share your spiritual needs with them.
