Day 105, Year 1
Evil Wisdom Will End
“I am the LORD … who frustrates the signs of the babblers, and drives diviners mad; who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolishness.” (Isaiah 44:24-25 NKJV)
“For there is no sorcery against Jacob, nor any divination against Israel. It now must be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘Oh, what God has done!'” (Numbers 23:23 NKJV)
It is mentioned previously that “with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.” This “ruin at hand” might not instantly come after the fools’ mouths, but only comes after a certain time. In the first verse of today, the “sign” and “divination” of diviners are quite familiar to some people. From a biblical perspective, these involve the work of evil spirits. In other words, these verses indicate that the Most High God permits these evil spirits to work only temporarily and seems effective for somebody within a certain period of time. Indeed, many people have come to believe in occult practices because they are deceived by their so-called effectiveness throughout history. So, some might find it difficult to abandon these temporarily effective yet evil ways.
Worldly wisdom and knowledge are partly connected to the occult. However, when the time appointed by God comes, these “signs” and “divinations” will become ineffective and clumsy, for He will eventually cause these deceptions to be unveiled in their essence of fraudulence. Thus, if you come across certain evil wisdom or something suspicious of being occult, you could pray to the Lord and ask Him to expose their underlying operations, spare you from the illusion and harm of all worldly wisdom and sorcery, and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to demolish any alliance or connection between humans and evil spirits with their works. Some worldly wisdom masquerades as divine ones, and some sorcery pretends to operate as noble and spiritual principles. The distinction between true and false spiritual wisdom could often be discerned through the Bible with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We should have the determination and patience to discern and be delivered from all occult dominions, and take everything we see as so-called effective in an evil way with a pinch of salt.
The second verse of today clearly indicates that sorcery and divination cannot truly harm God’s people. However, in my experience, they could temporarily disturb us, causing our minds to become momentarily dizzy, or even causing us difficulty focusing on prayers, etc. In this spiritual battle, we need to pray to Jesus for the removal of all the curses and sorceries. As we pray to Him, He will surely deliver us from all evils. To this end, we should pursue the divine wisdom given by God in order to walk the path of fearing Him and overcome all evil powers.
Reflection questions:
1) Do you think occult practices and evil wisdom would ultimately be nullified and become ineffective? Why?
2) Do you believe that God will protect His people from the harm of sorcery? What will you do if you are disturbed by sorcery or evil work?
