Day 302, Year 1

Strive to Solve the Problems of Sins

“Fill up, then, the measure of the guilt of your fathers.” (Matthew 23:32 NASB)

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate.” (Matthew 23:37-38 NKJV)

In my opinion, Jesus reminds all in the first verse of the day to deal with the sins of our ancestors and not to underestimate the influence of generational sins. We should consider the sins of our parents and grandparents, put their sins before us, and see how Jesus will lead us to overcome them. The Pharisees, etc., continued to follow the path of their ancestors’ sinning, and they were unable to accept the words of correction and were not sensitive to the curses of sins, so they collectively committed evil, and finally killed Jesus. About 70 A.D., Jerusalem was eventually destroyed and made desolate. This is the fulfillment of Jesus’ words. So, if we do not overcome the sins of our predecessors, we may also experience similar destruction sooner or later.

To overcome generational curses and sins, we must first change our self-righteous attitude, if any, and accept godly advice. When others question what we have always done or what we have always thought is right, be willing to listen to and pay attention to the opposite opinions, and reflect deeply on our own habitual reactions. When we think about how to overcome sins, we often find that what we naturally don’t want to listen to is exactly what we need to listen to the most. This kind of reverse thinking and attention, which requires us to endure a period of psychological pain, is a necessary state of mind for believers to eradicate sins within us.

In addition, even what ordinary people think is good requires deep introspection. For instance, the wisdom of deceiving others in the family might have been transformed into a legitimate way of deceiving others in a civilized society. But deceiving others to get rich may be difficult for even believers to perceive as a kind of generational curse. Thus, it is essential for believers to seek God with all our hearts, to ask the Lord to cleanse and adjust our spiritual senses according to His Word, and to seek the changes that come under the Lord’s wings. People habitually sin because they feel that there is nothing wrong with it. They don’t feel that sin is bad, so they keep sinning. Contrarily, we should clearly understand that eradicating ourselves from all sins and seeking refuge from God will stop His curse of desolation. The fate of communities always begins with individual choices.

Reflection questions:

1) How would you always treat people who are against your will or opinions? Why?

2) Can you perceive that some of your own feelings may go wrong and make you prone to sin? How do you adjust your senses to be in tune with God with His help?
