Day 304, Year 1

Jesus Rescues Us From This Present Evil Age

Jesus Christ, “Who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.” (Galatians 1:4 NASB)

As Jesus Christ sat down with believers, He might discuss how to save people from this evil age. “Rescue” in Greek is exaireo, which also means “to pluck out, draw out, root out, to choose out (for one’s self), one person from many, or deliver.” In other words, Jesus plucked out a small number of people who trusted in Him from this sinful generation. I will share three points here.

First, only a very few people are saved. When Jesus knocks on the door, only a small number of people hear His voice, open the door for Him, and continue to acknowledge His Lordship. But this small number of saved people is not an excuse for believers to form any coterie. The standard of being saved is high, but anyone who meets the Lord’s call and requirements will be saved. Besides, if you are a first-generation Christian, be prepared to rely on Jesus to fight against all kinds of evils and unbeliefs around you. Perhaps, Jesus will ask a small number of those who are already dissatisfied with the evil age to come to Him through your help.

Second, believers are to uproot ourselves from this wicked generation. Jesus gave Himself to be crucified in order to save us from the evil of this age. Uprooting in the verse is very substantial. Jesus was born into this world, and He Himself had lived a life of uprooting evil, freeing Himself from this sinful age. He guides us to uproot the sinful desires and lusts from this evil age. We should have the same mentality of uprooting sins, not loving the world while wanting to follow His will, for evil brings disasters and calamities. As mentioned earlier, hypocrites will be judged sooner or later more severely, no matter how.

Third, we are to be set free from the evil of this age. We need to understand that almost all sins are rooted in this evil generation and also in human hearts, too. People can sin creatively and do evil collectively. Thus, this wicked generation was expanding. We who rely on Jesus to cleanse the sins in our hearts will cut off all ties with this wicked generation. The key is to understand the evil that we have connected with the present generation, and even how we begin to accept it, and why we love it, so that we can curse the roots of sin in it, in the name of Jesus, to root them all, and rely on Him to change our false beliefs and distorted feelings into right ones. When the sins of the believers are uprooted, we will no longer be able to feel a strong attraction in the face of the temptations of sin.

Reflection questions:

1) Are you willing to cut yourself off from all ties to this evil generation? Why?

2) Are you willing to uproot the evil desires and lusts in you with the help of Jesus? If so, what do you think is the core or the root of it?
