Day 71, Year 1 Excessive Talking Leads to Foolishness

“For a dream comes through much activity, and a fool’s voice is known by his many words.” (Ecclesiastes 5:3 NKJV)

When we have numerous matters to handle, coupled with thoughts, sometimes these emerge in our dreams. Hence, believers who have poor sleep quality due to excessive dreaming need to think about how to cast our cares on the Lord Jesus in prayers to sleep peacefully. When we commit something to Jesus, we try not to think about it. If you need to think about it again, ask Him to guide your thinking. If we constantly sleep poorly, how can we become wise people?

On the other hand, there are various types of fools, we have previously mentioned the quarrelsome. Similarly, some who are too eager to find happiness in interpersonal relationships would find becoming wise difficult. In reality, a few types of people love to talk excessively, which could reveal their foolishness.

First, those who naturally talk a lot are perhaps sensitive in certain areas. They are happy to share all their opinions and feelings. You might feel that you are dull in some ways in their presence. But if we focus on Jesus and His kingdom, we might indeed have few opinions or feelings about worldly matters, which is normal. For these talkative people, their excessive sensitivity toward worldly affairs could cause them to become foolish.

Second, garrulous or verbose people constantly repeat what they have already said. This type of person might be overly invested in certain things or interpersonal relationships and desire those around them to comply with their ideas. Of course, if their verbosity is directed toward correct matters, it is not foolish. However, these people might have too little time to absorb new and useful knowledge. As a result, their foolishness would be revealed sooner or later.

Third, people who are knowledgeable or accomplished in certain areas, but presumptuously comment on other matters they are unfamiliar with. As a result, they are susceptible to revealing their foolishness. In fact, besides Jesus, it seems difficult to find anyone in this world who is truly knowledgeable in every area. Of course, it must be added that some believers could receive divine revelation, hence suddenly gaining knowledge, intelligence, or wisdom in areas they are not familiar with. Thus, when discerning the foolishness in someone’s speech, we should be careful to verify and not be hasty in judging others.

Reflection questions:

1) Do you sleep well enough to always wake up with sufficient energy? If not, how would you adjust your daily routine?

2) Do you love to talk a lot? If so, do you need to improve, and how would you change it?
