Day 95, Year 1 Acquiring Wisdom and Loving Life

“He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.” (Proverbs 19:8 NASB)

God’s people who obtain divine wisdom will love our lives. But why are some people unwilling to choose life but favor the way of destruction instead? It is probably related to whether they want wisdom or not. Indeed, if someone thinks that superficiality or foolishness is good, they would not pursue or learn wisdom. As a result, they are unlikely to choose God’s life.

In contrast, when we pursue and acquire wisdom, our thinking and emotions will be nourished. We will understand our lives more deeply when we view everything from God’s life-giving perspective. His wisdom will definitely lead us to treasure the unique life that God has prepared for us. Moreover, among the different righteous paths mentioned in the previous devotionals, the wise pursue the most righteous one in their eyes, as we have continuously been transforming according to our belief and obedience in the Lord Jesus. Similarly, when we, Jesus’ disciples, obey His command to deny ourselves, those with His wisdom will always know what to give up and what to preserve.

“Understanding” in today’s verse, tebunah in Hebrew, could also be translated as “object of knowledge, or insight.” The second half of this verse could be understood as “the one who holds fast to the sudden flash of insight will find good.” Anyone who has experienced creating something would understand the process of turning spontaneous inspiration into the foundation of his or her artwork. Seeking spiritual wisdom is sometimes the same. If you can clearly remember the spiritual insights you received, you will gradually find they are interrelated and even interconnected. Subsequently, you would understand how to apply God’s spiritual wisdom to your decisions for divine abundance. The spiritual world is often invisible. If you are forgetful, you might need to review what you have learned from time to time and write down your spiritual receptions. As a result, your understanding becomes more solid, and there could be more lasting changes in your life. Indeed, if you could ponder on the verses of each day, reflect on them during your free time, and apply them in relevant areas, your faith, which grows stronger and stronger, will be your spiritual foundation, and you will surely find greater good in your future.

Reflection questions:

1) Do you habitually write down the flashes of spiritual insight you receive, meditate on them, and turn them into blessings for your life?

2) Do you feel that your desire for wisdom has been increasing and that you love the divine life more? If so, how have the past hundred days of devotionals brought about any change in you?
