Day 303, Year 1

Welcome God’s Messengers in the Name of the Lord

“For I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!'” (Matthew 23:39 NKJV)

When God’s chosen Jerusalem could also be desolate because of sins, nowhere on earth will not be desolate sooner or later due to the sins of the people dwelling within. We should not underestimate the destructive power of sins. When people indulge in sins, they will reject Jesus. When they reject the Lord many times, and at a certain stage, they will never find favor or hear His voice again. Thus, anyone who welcomes Jesus must strive to cleanse themselves from sins and welcome His various messengers in the name of the Lord.

Today’s verse is worth pondering. Those who come in the name of the Lord are those who speak His words and do His work. Do you have this expectation in your heart to meet God’s messenger? Or do you only want your wishes to be fulfilled and pursue what you want? Of course, if someone claims to have come in the name of the Lord, we need to carefully discern and verify whether they say and do according to God’s will. The envoys of the Lord can open our hearts and minds. And we should be open to His messengers and understand how He wants to lead us. In fact, when believers receive God’s envoys in love, there can be surprises, for we may, in reality, receive His angels (Hebrews 13:2; Genesis 18:1-15).

Trusting God honestly, receiving His envoys, and obeying His messages sum up the emphasis of Matthew 23 for believers. Indeed, it is difficult for us to break through in our lives on our own. Often, we have to rely on other ministers for spiritual breakthroughs, including cleansing from hypocrisy. One of the characteristics of God’s envoys is that they usually explain Jesus’ saving grace and wisdom in greater depth, so that we believers can receive divine power and make breakthroughs in our lives. The envoys of God help us joyfully praise Him, and we need to appreciate His faithful messengers. But without the right mentality, it is difficult for us to welcome His envoys and receive His blessings. The praise that pleases God is often from believers’ consistent inner thoughts, words, and deeds. We must be honest and consistent. Moreover, what do you usually praise in your heart? A certain Christian receives a vision from God that all praises Him admirably with a golden light beam in each of His people’s mouths, which ascends to His throne in heaven. They are the people who always praise God wholeheartedly. Will you be one of them?

Reflection questions:

1) Are your inner beliefs always consistent with your behaviors? If there is a contradiction or discrepancy, what will you do?

2) Can you easily discern and welcome the messengers from God and be willing to listen to His indirect message? Why?
