Day 62 (Year 2)

The Light of God’s Face Brings Grace

“The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you.” (Numbers 6:25 NKJV)

“In the light of a king’s face is life, And his favor is like a cloud with the spring rain.” (Proverbs 16:15 NASB)

In the Bible, God’s face always brings light, life, and grace to His people. Believers are called to walk before Him, and this means that we who live in His presence can continually receive His grace and help. Such a blessed life requires a heart that prays to God at all times in all things. In today’s first scripture, the High Priest, according to the Old Testament, was instructed to bless the Israelites in accordance with the Scripture. When God’s face shines upon someone, that person receives His grace. This implies that God delights in His people and turns His face toward them, like sunlight dispelling darkness at dawn. God’s face directed toward His people signifies that He sees our needs and cares for us, often granting us favor. It is like a kind and resourceful father looking upon his child; and thus the child’s needs are all met under his attentive gaze.

The second scripture describes how the graceful face of a king brings life and favor, whereas his anger could mean destruction. This verse vividly illustrates how God, as King, bestows favor to His people. When God’s face shines upon us, we will receive His life and favor. His grace comes to us like spring rain—timely and life-giving. The phrase “a cloud with the spring rain” means that in the land of Israel, spring rain ensures early summer harvest. Without it, crops would wither, and both human and vegetational survival would be threatened.

Together, these scriptures help explain what it means for Jesus to be the light of life—He brings us joy and sustains our lives with His timely favor and grace. He meets all our needs. He delights in bringing His abundance to all who believe in Him. The key is that we must continually seek His shining face. Faith in Jesus is not merely a one-time decision, but it requires ongoing trust in Him. We need to follow Him consistently and seek the light of His face and His favor, overcoming fatigue, discouragement, or a sense of falling behind. In such times, we must look to the Lord Jesus for spiritual power, asking Him to strengthen our faith and renew our energy so that we may follow Him joyfully and faithfully until the time we reach heaven.

Reflection questions:

1) Do you always seek God’s face for looking to Him and receiving His help? If not, how might you cultivate this habit?

2) Have you ever felt weary or discouraged in following the Lord Jesus? If so, how did you rely on Him to deal with it?
