Day 310, Year 1
God Is Not Pleased with People Who Lack Truthfulness
“Yes, truth is lacking; And he who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey. Now the LORD saw, And it was displeasing in His sight that there was no justice.” (Isaiah 59:15 NASB)
The word “truth” in today’s verse is ’emeth. As mentioned earlier, God created the world with honesty and truth in the very beginning. However, nowadays, there are many places where lies, half-truths, and evil are rampant. So, the verse says, “he who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey.” Thus, every believer who pursues honesty and truth must seek God’s wisdom to escape from becoming prey of evil. Furthermore, honest people must have the courage and strength to fight against the forces of evil. We who lack courage can ask God’s Spirit to fill ourselves, and He will give strength and courage to everyone who asks Him (Micah 3:8).
God is displeased when He sees that there is no justice and that the virtues He has created are gone in humans, for He created the world to have virtues such as fairness and truthfulness. When God is not pleased with people, it is difficult for them to feel His work. As a result, when some nonbelievers are skeptical of trusting in God until they see His work, or even demand to see Jesus face-to-face, this is very difficult in terms of godly principles. For God is not pleased with the dishonest and unfair people, so how can He reveal Himself to them? Hence, we must change ourselves to have at least some virtues in God’s sight so as to experience Him.
When human inner fairness and honesty disappear, it is also the beginning of evil hegemony. As a result, those who turn away from evil become prey. Contrarily, believers must be strong and, at least, stand firm in faith first. Then we can confront unfairness and dishonesty with divine boldness. Indeed, believers can rely on the words of the Bible and the mercy of Jesus to overcome all the injustice and dishonesty from within. In reality, liars also lie to themselves and accept injustice as fairness to themselves, too. If a person wants to overcome dishonesty and so on, he or she must first overcome all this evil in him or her. If we lie to ourselves, so as to make us feel good, please pray to the Lord to give us the strength to face the disturbing truth and stop relying on lies to get an easy way out. We are to rely on God’s Word and His work to drive out any evil power in us. Without God’s work, it is difficult for us to fight the lies and the evil forces behind them. We need to abide in the steadfast faith in God, strive to be honest, and overcome all evil with the magnificent power of God’s truth.
Reflection questions:
1) Do you feel like you have godly honesty and fairness in you? If something is missing, what are you going to do?
2) Do you have the strength of the Lord to face every disturbing truth? If so, how would you help others who repent so that they do not become prey of evil?
