Day 81 (Year 2)

The Pursuit of Wisdom, Righteousness, and Love  

… “They may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God.” (Acts 26:18b NASB)

Sinners usually need a heart that pursues wisdom, righteousness, and love to turn back to God. In fact, certain human wisdom can connect with God’s wisdom, while the darkness operates in the exact opposite direction. Typically, believers who long for His light while in the darkness do not need to understand both fully. As long as we are dissatisfied with the darkness, we can then have the desire or motivation to seek the light. We who have dissatisfaction with the oppression of the darkness and Satan will often want to find a way out, and only then can we turn to God. In fact, some people may need to hover between light and darkness, or between Satan and God, so as to taste the harm of the darkness or Satan before they determine to turn back to God.

Commonly, people have been distinguishing between good and evil, right and wrong, since childhood. We often reject the bad and choose the good, accepting what is beneficial and discarding what is harmful. This experience of distinguishing between various things usually becomes the foundation for pursuing wisdom, righteousness, and love. Wisdom helps us discern between genuine love and false or misplaced emotion, and between righteousness and unrighteousness. Besides the difficulty of letting go of the benefits of evil, the influence of acquaintances, even a fear of a new way of life, and so forth, can trap us in evil even though we know the difference between good and evil.

Indeed, it is difficult for a person to choose to turn back to God purely for personal gain. If people hold on to personal benefits, they will abandon God when suffering comes. All in all, an unselfish heart is a vital foundation for turning to God, and such unselfishness will lead us to discover the greatest divine wisdom and long-lasting gains. On the path of turning to God, divine wisdom not only teaches us how to break free from bondages but also how to seek His guidance and choose the best even in times of conflict or dilemma. Thus, divine wisdom is not merely intellectual knowledge but also a better perception and more accurate judgment that enable us to turn from Satan’s power to God’s. After all, the wisdom, righteousness, and love within us must bear some resemblance to God’s own qualities to guide us back into His eternal embrace.

1) Do you have the determination to leave all spiritual darkness, and will you sustain that resolve with actions? Why?  

2) Do you believe that turning to God with an unselfish heart that always seeks wisdom can lead to your greatest benefit? Why?
