Seeking Jesus’ Healing

“You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38 NASB)

To supplement the earlier phrase “had a spirit of infirmity” (Luke 13:11), the Greek word astheneia means “a spirit of weakness or illness” (Luke 13:12). The word also refers to human weakness not directly connected to any evil spirits (1 Corinthians 2:3). In other words, that woman’s weakness was caused by a spirit of illness. Jesus went about healing all who were oppressed by the devil, including the woman oppressed and all who had faith in Him. On the path of submitting to Jesus, we may encounter obstacles in body or soul that come from Satan. We should pray one by one for every area in which we are oppressed by it, asking the Lord for deliverance. Today’s scripture points to three directions for praying to Jesus.

First, implore Jesus’ presence and help. I believe that pleading for Jesus’ presence means constantly seeking the Lord’s will and work. His presence consistently helps us to be healed from all the devil’s work. Jesus would be willing to be with those who love Him, know and obey His will, and truly honor Him as Lord for a long time. When Jesus is truly your Lord, He will certainly take care of everything for you.

Second, God’s Holy Spirit is opposed to evil spirits. Listening to Jesus’ words leads to receiving and obeying the truth, connecting with His life, and thus receiving His healing. Eradicating sinful thoughts and actions is only the first step. More vitally, in all things, seek to know Jesus’ will and change according to His guidance, so as to become holy and always receive the help of His Spirit. We should pursue God’s holiness and pray to be always filled with His Holy Spirit.

Third, believers should seek God’s power. In all things, we should know and follow the Lord Jesus’ will, though success is not guaranteed for everything. The residual selfish desires within believers and the interference of evil spirits can hinder the actualization of God’s will. Satan is completely unreasonable. Thus, we should seek the power of God’s truth to overcome the devil’s interference and successfully carry out His will. Finally, if you consistently experience God’s presence and help and are filled with His holy power, you must then seek His guidance to help others follow the Lord.

2) Are you willing to seek God’s holiness and the fullness of the Holy Spirit, relying on His power to overcome the devil’s oppression on you and others?
